California Chafee Grant for Foster Youth
California Student Aid Commission
Grant of up to $5,000 per year for college or vocational training for current and former foster youth under 26. Apply by filing the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application and then the one-time Chafee application.
Who it's for
Was in foster care at least one day between ages 16 and 18; will not turn 26 before July 1 of the award year; enrolled at least half-time in a program of four months or longer
How to get in
Submit the FAFSA or CADAA, then complete the Chafee application at chafee.csac.ca.gov (opens Oct 1, closes July 31); your ILP coordinator may need to file a Foster Care Verification Form
