Birth certificate

Two secondary documents, such as jail or prison papers and a utility bill, can stand in for a photo ID. Homeless people and former foster youth under 26 can get a free copy at any local vital records office in Utah.

T visa

Catholic Community Services' immigration program helps regardless of income or religion: 801-977-9119, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Holy Cross Ministries Immigration Legal Services helps eligible people by appointment: 801-261-3440, ext. 748.

Clear your record

File a post-conviction petition for listed offenses committed while subject to force, fraud or coercion. You need clear and convincing evidence. The one-year deadline is paused while force, fraud or coercion kept you from filing, and a win means the conviction is vacated and the records expunged.

Benefits and help

Utah's crime victim reparations can pay medical bills, counseling, funeral costs and lost wages when you have no other way to pay. The crime must be reported to police and you must cooperate. Juniper in Salt Lake City offers free therapy and case management for youth 12 to 18 who were sexually exploited: 801-382-7202.
