Gateway Center
Downtown Atlanta's main front door for people without housing. It runs coordinated entry for the city, an engagement center with day services, and residential tracks for men including the Upward addiction-recovery program and a two-year veterans program.
Old Savannah City Mission
Faith-based mission on Bull Street offering three hot meals a day, overnight beds, showers and clothing at no charge, plus a residential recovery program for men coming out of homelessness and addiction. A free medical clinic runs Monday afternoons.
CARES Warm Line
Peer-staffed call-or-text line for anyone in Georgia who wants to talk about substance use recovery without a crisis. The parent organization trains peer recovery coaches and supports a statewide network of Recovery Community Organizations, including centers in Atlanta, Savannah and Columbus.
Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL)
The state's single number for mental health and addiction emergencies and for getting into publicly funded treatment. Counselors talk people through a crisis, send mobile crisis teams, locate open detox or crisis beds anywhere in Georgia, and book urgent appointments with state-funded providers.
Georgia Gateway

Call the help line for a phone assessment or walk into a Coordinated Entry site to get on the list for shelter and housing.
Oak City Cares
Wake County's multi-service hub for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, with care coordinators, weekday showers and laundry, weekend meals, on-site medical and behavioral health, and rides to other providers. It is a Coordinated Entry access site, so this is where to walk in for shelter and homelessness-prevention referrals.
Recovery Hub Charlotte Peer Support Center
Free, peer-run center where people in recovery or emotional distress can drop in for groups, one-to-one peer support, resource navigation, classes, and a cafe. A peer respite line runs around the clock, and the statewide peer warmline can be called or texted at any hour.

NC Medicaid Application
North Carolina expanded Medicaid in December 2023, so most adults with low income can get coverage. Apply online through ePASS (listed as Medical Assistance), by phone or walk-in at your county DSS, or by mailing a signed application; decisions take up to 45 days, 90 for disability.
HOPEline
Statewide call-or-text line staffed around the clock by counselors trained in addiction and crisis support. They assess risk, help with crisis intervention, and connect callers to treatment, recovery groups, and peer or family support regardless of ability to pay.
The Bowery Mission
Three meals a day at 227 Bowery with no ID or questions, plus showers, clothing, free mobile medical care, and up to seven nights of emergency shelter at the Tribeca campus. Longer residential recovery programs are available by walking in to speak with an Ambassador.
ROCovery Fitness
Peer-run recovery community in Rochester built around fitness and sober social activities. Programs are free for anyone with at least 48 hours of continuous sobriety; fill out the membership questionnaire online or stop by the Dewey Avenue outreach center.

The P.E.E.R. Center
Free drop-in recovery centers on Columbus's east and west sides for people working through mental illness, trauma, and addiction. Peer-led groups, one-on-one peer support, a computer lab, and daily activities; no appointment or insurance needed. An evening phone line runs 5pm to 3am.
Ohio Benefits

King Women's Resource Center, a street outreach team, and Cornerstone Counseling.
First Step House
Residential and outpatient treatment plus recovery housing for adults in Salt Lake County, built around men with substance use disorders at moderate to high risk of criminal behavior; a record is not required. Also Utah's only transitional housing for homeless veterans of any gender. Most admissions come by referral, but self-referrals are taken; typical wait for a bed is 2–4 weeks.
