Austin Street Center
One of Dallas's largest emergency shelters, serving women 18 and over and men 45 and over. Walk-up evaluation runs weekday middays, beds usually fill before noon and are assigned by lottery when demand exceeds space.
Who it's for
Women 18+, men 45+, with no place to stay and able to self-care. Registered sex offenders cannot be served.
How to get in
Walk up to the Welcome Center; referrals from hospitals and outreach must arrive by 6pm the day before.
What to bring
Valid state or federal government ID; no more than two bags of 25 lbs each.
